Quality Time With Music Royalty As The Cast Of New Girl Meets Prince

SPOILERS AHEAD

 

Last night, New Girl saw a legendary performer tread the boards of the beloved FOX show in its post-Super Bowl episode. The episode, titled “Prince” in honor of its famous guest star, was filled with several memorable (and somewhat hilarious and touching) moments.

 

The episode is centred around Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) being invited to a party at Prince’s mansion. Nick unfortunately makes the mistake of saying three words that can doom a relationship “I love you”. The girls head off to the hitmaker’s mansion, while the boys head off to a bar to discuss Nick’s unfortunate romantic faux pas. The resolution to the problem was provided by Schmidt, who said Nick should gatecrash Prince’s party and somehow having his “I love you” returned by Jess. Despite not being actually invited to the party (which is sort of a prerequisite to go to a party), but of course the boys have a scheme, which obviously succeeds (this particular scheme included Winston and Coach pretending to be old friends of the host). Let’s just say Schmidt and Nick’s attempt to gain access through a similar scheme wasn’t as successful. They got in eventually through a plan that vaguely resembled a certain event in Troy millennia ago.

 

Nick finds Jess at the party. Its shown that Jess is also feeling very freaked out by the “I love you” incident, but what she regrets is not returning the sentiment. When she sees Nick, she tells him she needs to tell him something, and then she faints. She awakens a while later. Before she and Nick can speak about the incident, Prince appears. Then it was Nick’s turn to faint…

 

Prince and Jess spend some quality time together, which included pancakes, table tennis, a makeover and a butterfly. He finally whispers something into Jess’ ear and then disappears into the purple twilight.

 

Of course Nick gets drunk and hits on models (which Winston and Coach were attempting to seduce), before offending them and ruining his buddies’ chances at getting with them. Across the dance floor, Jess reappears and unites with Nick. A beautiful moment where a romantic whisper would suffice was prey to loud music, which caused Jess to scream “I LOVE YOU NICK MILLER” in a funny but equally touching moment.

 

The episode ended with the whole group sitting in their apartment, talking about how odd and clichéd their experience was. A great ending to a great episode, which had a guest performance by a real musical legend.
