Last fall, fans of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black were heartbroken to hear that Laura Prepon, who plays Alex Vause, would only return for one episode of season 2. But, upon hearing later news, they were relieved when that number increased to four. Now her return has been confirmed, and we will be seeing a lot more of the foxy fan favorite than we originally thought!
“Yes, yes, she is coming back. Not the whole season, but…you’ll see her for most of it”, show creator Jenji Kohan said to Us magazine at the Writers Guild Awards.
In addition, there have been many (good) changes made to the show. Although the show has primarily focused on Piper (Taylor Schilling) and her storyline in the first season, it will expand its exploration of the backgrounds and storylines of the diverse supporting cast.
“…As much as I love Piper and Taylor and her journey, I think people are interested in everybody’s journey”, Kohan said.
Taryn Manning (Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett), Uzo Aduba (Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren) and Danielle Brooks (Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson) have all been promoted to season regulars, so viewers can look forward to seeing more of their backstories and interactions. Lorraine Toussaint and Lori Petty have also joined the cast for the second season as a former drug dealer and unknown role, respectively.
In an unofficial report, the second season of the prison drama is said to air in early to mid-2014.
