If you were like many people on Tuesday, you either tuned into, or at least heard about, the evolution vs. creationism debate between popular scientist Bill Nye and creationist Ken Ham. When “Bill Nye the Science Guy” and Ham got down to it, many believed that Nye effectively won the debate by backing up his points with scientific fact.
Many expected the evolutionists out there to criticize Ham, but instead, the criticism came from a different source, in the form of former Southern Baptist minister Pat Robertson. Robertson, the current host of television show The 700 Club had this to say:
“Let’s be real, let’s not make a joke of ourselves.”
What was he referring to? Many have guessed that he was discussing Ham’s statement that the earth had only been around for 6,000 years, something that science strongly disputes, as does Robertson himself for that matter. The television host also said in reference to Ham’s claims, “To say that it all came about in 6,000 years is just nonsense, and I think it’s time we come off of that stuff and say this isn’t possible.”.
This isn’t the first time Robertson and Ham have disagreed, however. Back in 2012, Ham criticized Robertson by stating the popular televangelist was allowing his followers be “led astray” and was taking part in “destructive teaching within the church”.
Thus far, there has been no response from Ham.
