Like many other major sponsors of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, Chevrolet took the chance to support LGBT rights by releasing a series of eight ads titled, #TheNew, two of which feature gay couples.
The TV commercial aired during the Opening Ceremonies coverage on NBC, featuring real life gay couples along with their families.
In one clip, the Traverse ad shows two fathers standing with their children in the kitchen smiling. Another scene shows a multi-racial family.
“While what it means to be a family hasn’t changed, what a family looks like, has. This is the new us,” says the voiceover. You can watch that ad here.
Another ad shows a gay couple celebrating tying the knot; and a picture of Jack Andraka, the 17-year-old scientist and inventor of the pancreatic cancer test.
“The new us, like the old us, is built on the things that matter most,” notes the voiceover. You watch that ad here.
These ads reflect the diversity among families, and focuses on the true meaning of family.
