John Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, passed away last Friday, after suffering from a heart attack at the age of 48. His passing was confirmed earlier today on the Jim Henson Company Facebook page.

Henson was the youngest son of  creators Jim and Jane Henson, and was a shareholder in his late parents’ company, the Jim Henson Company. Henson was a former puppeteer for the Muppets; his main association with the children’s show was his nine foot tall body suit, which he operated as the character Sweetums. He starred as Sweetums for years, appearing in numerous shows, specials, and Muppets films.

Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and viewers who will surely miss the man who brought much joy to children’s lives.
