It’s been over a decade since Jamaica first competed in the Winter Olympics, and now that they’ve joined athletes from all over the world in Sochi, they’ve decided to make the Games memorable.
How, you ask?
With their own theme song, of course.
Written by musicians Sidney Mills and Jon Notar, “The Bobsled Song” was created to encourage cheering on Jamaica’s national team during the Olympics.
The Jamaica Tourist Board told viewers that they should download the song and play it as soon as the bobsled team began its descent down the track.
The song is written so that its lyrics, beat, and length are entirely in sync with the racetrack in Sochi.
Winston Watts and Marvin Dixon are hoping to lead Team Jamaica to triumph this year as they compete in the two-man bobsled competition.
The well-known 1993 movie Cool Runnings was inspired by the Caribbean island’s national team in the 1988 Calgary Winter Games, the country’s first ever.
Since then, Jamaica has competed in four Winter Olympics, their best results being 14th place in Norway’s 1994 Games.
