Valentine’s Day is a day to spend time with your significant other. Go to a fancy dinner, watch a romantic movie, or even stay home and cuddle. But did people watch the Winter Olympics as part of their romantic night?
Sadly, the Sochi Olympic coverage had the lowest ratings in Olympic history among viewers and adults 18-49. The coverage included ice sledding, free skating, some hockey highlights and skiing. It attracted only 19.2 million viewers with a national household rating of 11.10/19. The ratings were down 17% from the Vancouver 2010 games. Also, it was an 18% drop from the Torino 2006 games. The first lowest night was the “bonus” night on February 6th that enticed 19.5 million viewers.
Meredith Vieira made history that night by being the first woman to host NBC’s Olympic coverage. She took Bob Costas spot on Friday night due to his weeklong eye infection. But even she couldn’t pull in the viewers!
A new episode of 20/20 broadcasted at 10pm which rated a 1.1/4 down a tenth from the previous Friday. Good news for ABC that aired “Be My Valentine Charlie Brown” received a 1.0/4, a rise of 43% from last year.
