While the NBA All-Star weekend has been in full swing, the event that has everyone excited for did not disappoint. The NBA All-Star game has been dominating the NBA world as of late. Who would be the MVP? LeBron James and Kevin Durant were the favorites to win it prior to tipoff. The biggest question was would the Eastern Conference All-Stars overthrow the Western Conference All-Stars and finally get the victory after losing for the last three years. So who came out the winners of this historic game?

The All-Star game is usually a game where people look back and say man, they played some shutdown defense, and you could learn a thing or two from watching that game. This game was not  an exception, the two teams successfully broke several scoring records including combined points (318), combined field goals (135), making record 30 three pointers, and dishing out a combined total, 88 assists. In the end the East finally broke their drought and downed the West, 163-155. Not exactly your usual low scoring game!

Surprisingly though the man of the night was not LeBron James or Kevin Durant, but the Cleveland Cavalier’s pride and joy Kyrie Irving who took home the prestigious MVP honors. Irving was the key player from the Eastern All-Star team who propelled his team to overcome an 18 point deficit to win the game. Kyrie Irving finished the night with a with a team high 31 points, and a whopping 14 assists which was a game high. Something that begs to be noted is the fact Irving only missed 3 of his 17 shots.

Another star for the East was New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, who scored 30 points while on his way to breaking the All-Star game record of made three pointers. Sinking an amazing 8 three’s. NBA superstar LeBron James was overshadowed by the likes of Irving and Anthony, but it is worth noting James had 22 points 7 rebounds and 7 helpers. Not a bad night for the basketball sensation.

On the Western Conference team two names stand out for the game, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin. While neither man won the MVP title, their numbers jump off of the page. Oklahoma Thunder star Kevin Durant finished the game with just shy of a triple double scoring 38 points, grabbing 10 boards, and dishing out 6 assists. Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers was not to be outdone; he also scored 38 points on 19 field goals, also an All-Star game record.  Griffin fell was two points shy of Glen Rice’s record for most points in a single quarter at an All-Star Game.

While the East relied heavily on good leadership by Joakim Noah, key plays by James and Irving, the West leaned on the work of Griffin and Durant. In the end the leadership and determination of the East paid off, capping the game with a 10-0 run solidifying the victory for their conference.

This was an All-Star game that is going to be replayed and talked about for quite sometimes thanks to the All-Stars that came to play. With records broken, the offensive clinic put on display, and the All-Stars that proved they belonged at the game a game that had the potential to be forgotten will be remembered. This ends the beloved All-Star weekend of festivities and fun with the giant exclamation point that everyone was waiting to see.
