Without any warning, Coldplay has recently released their newest single “Midnight.”

It seems as though the band was imitating Beyonce with their sudden track release at midnight. The only warning that Coldplay fans had was a tweet by the band’s twitter stating “Something new at 0:00 in Ulaanbaatar #midnight PH.” A bit of a geography lesson, Ulaanbaatar is the capital of Mongolia. So why would the band release their “Midnight” track at midnight in Mongolia? The answer is unknown, but the fact is almost as mysterious and odd as the song itself.

The song strays far from anything the band has done in the past. It is long and maintains the same melody throughout the length of it until the very end. The video is black and white with photo-negative images of the band members dancing around in the forest. As far as the meaning of the song, nobody can quite figure that out.

Maybe, just like any band, Coldplay is trying to evolve into the more modern popular music that all seems to have a hint of rave and techno to it. How do you like the band’s new sound? I personally prefer the old Coldplay to the new.
