J.J. Abrams may have found one of his villains for Star Wars: Episode Seven in the form of Adam Driver. Best known for playing Hannah Horvath’s boyfriend, Adam, on Girls, this will be the first major movie role of his career.

Right now plot details are being kept secretive, but he is the first actor to officially sign on for movie. However, the character he has signed on for is reported to be a villain similar to Darth Vader. Obviously, filling the role of one of the all-time intimidating movie villains would be an impossible task, but let’s hope Abrams has a way of making this character a viable threat for this universe.

As far as Driver’s other films, the list is impressive given his short time in the business. He’s had small roles in J. Edgar, Frances Ha, Lincoln, and Inside Llewyn Davis, which were directed by Clint Eastwood, Noah Baumbach, Steven Spielberg, and the Coen Brothers respectiviely. Not to mention, he will be in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film Silence so he shouldn’t be too intimidated by the idea of working on something with a high pedigree.

For those who have never seen his work on Girls, his character is well known for his simultaneous hate of inconsequential things and his struggle with the demons of his past, both characteristics that could make for great villain should he turn to the dark side. Also, in what is surely a fantastic coincidence, his character on Girls just landed his first big acting role in last week’s episode.

This could be the first of many casting announcements, since they are getting ready to begin filming next month at Pinewood London.

What do you guys think of the first casting announcement? Are you satisfied with Driver? Who else would you like to see added to the blockbuster? Let us know in the comments below!
