CNN reports that ex-NFL player Darren Sharper is now facing four rape charges in two different states, and even more charges are likely to follow.
Sharper turned himself in to L.A. police on Feb 27th after arrest warrants were issued in New Orleans charging Sharper and an associate, Erik Nunez, with two counts each of aggravated rape. Sharper was already facing California charges of two counts of rape by use of drugs.
All four counts stem from incidents occurring over the last five months.
Authorities are also investigating sexual-assault-related cases against Sharper in Arizona, Nevada, and Florida, with Arizona police expecting to file charges soon.
Last week at Sharper’s hearing, his attorney Leonard Levine refuted all the accusations, stating that: “It was all consensual contact with women who wanted to be in his company.”
Thirty-eight-year-old Sharper had a successful NFL career from 1997 to 2010, playing in five Pro Bowls. He had recently been working as an analyst for the NFL Network.
If convicted of the Louisiana charges alone, Sharper faces a possible sentence of life in prison without parole.
