LEGO Cuusoo has been making toy building fans’ dreams come true for years, giving them the chance to submit their designs of their favorite shows and movies, like they did with Back to the Future and Ghostbusters.
Licensing agreements have always been an obstacle for LEGO Cuusoo and the ambitious designers. This is what happened with BBC’s hit show Doctor Who. But apparently, this is no longer an issue.
“Sometimes we have to turn down project submissions that refer to specific brands or licensed properties,” said LEGO Cuusoo on their on the Licence and Conflict Resolution page. “We do this to avoid getting your hopes up for something we know we aren’t able to make. In these cases, we already know the LEGO Group can’t secure licensing rights to produce construction toys based on a particular brand or property, due to a conflicting interest with a third party.”
They added, “If such a conflict goes away, we’ll then be able to accept projects based on a particular brand or license.”
Apparently, many people submitted projects that were turned down because of license conflict, but now LEGO Cuusoo are accepting new projects. They added an update on Feb. 25 saying, “We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts: Doctor Who – February 2014.”
Since then, 2o designs were uploaded to the websites, you can check them here and vote for your favorites!
