Movies are designed to entertain. They are created to transport us to a different world and away from our problems–at least for a little while. Some movies educate us. Others make us think deeply about the world around us.
Often, the moral or lesson will come as a surprise to the viewer. We will be watching and all of a sudden, something profound is said or something monumental happens that changes our outlook on life. Unexpectedly, this happens in the new family film, Mr. Peabody and Sherman
This is a classic smart dog with human storyline. The movie is based off an old cartoon with the same name, but the characters have been updated to fit modern times–geared towards the 21st century, all the while keeping the idea and general plot in mind.
But, what is so profound? The film seems to be a metaphor for love and what it means to love. On a deeper level, the movie delves into homosexual couples adopting. A blogger admits the discussion is subtle, so don’t fret if you didn’t notice.

The movie, which seems to be considered as average, is an adventure story with a father/son component. However, the father is a dog and the kid is not. Odd but true in this universe. The reason for adopting was “Mr. Peabody simply adopted Sherman because he wanted to be a dad.” Then, through the whole film, the dog has to prove he is a good father.
If true, it’s an interesting concept! At any rate, this seems to be a good movie about tolerance and acceptance. That is something we all need.
