The answer to one of life’s greatest questions, “Who Let The Dogs Out?” is Dallas Seavey, at least it is this year. Seavey came from behind on Tuesday to win his second Iditarod, the famous yearly dog sled race in Nome, Alaska.
Seavey owes his win to a strange quirk of Mother Nature as well as the pace of his canines as the two competitors ahead of him were respectively eliminated and delayed by a sudden storm. Seavey himself was confused by the situation, not even initially aware of his win after he crossed the finish line.
He told reporters his first response to the reaction at his arrival was, “Man, this is a lot of people coming out to see third place come in.”
Seavey not only won the race, but also broke the previous record set in 2011 at a time of 8 days, 13 hours, 4 minutes, and 19 seconds. It’ll be T-bones instead of Kibbles & Bits all around for Team Seavey as his win netted him $50,000 and a new truck.
Runner-up Aliy Zirkle lost the race by 2 minutes and 22 seconds.
