Last night on The Originals, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) set his little sister free and after some tearful goodbyes, Rebekah (Claire Holt) drove off with a smile on her face and wind in her hair. We’ve seen Rebekah run off like this before in the past, but she always came running back to save her older brother. Is this the last we’ll see of the young and only Mikaelson sister?

Unfortunately, the answer is yes. According to BuzzFeed, last night’s episode of The Originals,  “Farewell to Storyville”, was actually Claire Holt’s last episode as a series regular. This definitely came as a shock to many fans, considering the show is about the Original family and how they’re a family “always and forever”. Sources also revealed that it was Holt’s decision to leave, saying she never meant to play Rebekah for as long as she did.

We first met Holt’s character, Rebekah Mickaelson, in Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries. Fans of the show grew to love her over the years. She was the badass younger sister of the Original family. She put people in their place and kicked a lot of butt, but she wasn’t cold. Fans saw there was more to the blonde immortal when she managed to show a soft side wanting family, friends and a place to call home.

Just last year the spinoff was picked up and Holt went from being a guest star on TVD to being the lead female star of her own spinoff. Both her and her H2o: Just Add Water co-star, Phoebe Tonkin,  teamed together and put the Original men in their places! Rebekah’s motto throughout the first half of the season was “Us girls have got to stick together,” but looks like Hayley (Tonkin) will take on the reigns and set the Original boys straight.

Now since Klaus didn’t kill his younger sister during their little showdown in the cemetery and Rebekah was seen driving away, that definitely opens the door for future appearances. If we don’t see the Australian actress later on this season, we may see a brief return in the second season, since the freshman show got an early renewal by the CW network.

How are you feeling about the latest Originals exit? I definitely hope she’ll be back soon to guest star! After all, she has to see her baby niece when she’s born!
