In 2011, Lady Gaga founded her charity Born This Way, which tends to encourage the youth and build better communities. Her mother, Cynthia Germannotta, is the president.
But the musician’s charity is not very charitable according to the $1.5 million that was spent on legal fees, publicity, and a website. According to the latest 2012 federal tax report, the charity’s expenses had nothing to do with helping people. Donations increased a whopping $1.4 million from the previous year. Born This Way received a total of $2.6 milllion of donations.
In a recent article by Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman, he posted a breakdown of all the expenses of the foundation.
$300,000 in strategic consulting
$62,836 on stage productions
$50,000 on social media
$50,000 on event coordination
$406,552 on legal
$150,000 on philanthropic consulting
$60,000 on research
$58,768 on publicity fees
$78,000 on travel
$72,000 on salaries
$808,661 on “other”
$5,000 on grants to organizations or individuals
A large portion was spent on consulting and “other.’’ The real question is what exactly are the “other” expenses? This charity’s purpose is to fight bullying yet only $5,000 was spent on grants or individuals.
Does this make Lady Gaga a bad person?
