Tyler, The Creator has been arrested in Austin, Texas following charges that he incited a riot during his performance at the SXSW music festival this past Thursday.
Authorities stated that the performer “encouraged behavior causing an immediate danger and injury to persons.”
At the start of his show, the rapper called out to the throng outside the Scoot Inn to break down the gates to gain access to the already full venue. Staff cut the sound and attempted to deal with the surging masses by locking the gates.
With tensions rising throughout the over-capacity crowd, the venue decided to let the show resume in an effort to avoid violence. Fortunately no one was injured during the stampede.
The incident is particularly shocking considering the concert had been rescheduled from the night before after a drunk driver struck members of the crowd waiting to get into the previous venue, killing two and injuring twenty-three.
Tyler (real name Tyler Gregory Okonma) is currently in custody on a $3,500 bond.
