Andy Serkis has stolen our hearts, imaginations, and yes, even The Ring. But now he’s going to try his hand behind the camera when he takes on the task of directing the live-action version of The Jungle Book for Warner Bros.
Serkis isn’t a stranger to directing: he’s been the second unit director on all three Hobbit movies with his friend Peter Jackson, as well as playing the iconic Gollum in all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films.
But as with most of these projects, there’s a snag. Disney has their own live-action version of the Rudyard Kipling classic that will be produced around the same time, which is set to star Idris Elba as Shere Khan. No casting has been announced for the Warner Bros. version, but I wouldn’t put it past Serkis to have a hand in it.
Neither of The Jungle Book films have release dates yet, but you don’t need to wait too long to see Serkis in action. He will reprise his critically acclaimed role of Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is set to be released on July 18 this year.
We can’t wait to see how the super-talented Mr. Serkis is going to interpret the beloved story of Mowgli, but we can almost confirm it will be nothing short of amazing!
