New England Patriots Defensive Tackle Vincent Wilfork has apparently cleaned out his locker after the discussion between Wilfork and Patriots’ management regarding altering his contract turned sour.
After asking for his release, he made a stop in the locker room, gathered all of his personal belongings, and walked out of Gillete Stadium.
According to the Boston Herald, when asked about Wilford, Patriots owner Robert Kraft struck a more diplomatic note stating that, “Going back over the last 20 years, if I was to think, we’ve had some pretty special people come through. And he’s one of my personal favorites. I’m thinking of Tedy Bruschi, and Matt Light, and Kevin Faulk and Troy Brown. They made their careers with us, and I sure hope Vince will be with us next year.”
Kraft then told the gathered reporters that, “In modern day athletes, in pro sports, it’s a business as well as commitment to one another. We have to work through it. I’m still not giving up hope that he’ll be a part of our team next year.”
The two are reported to have a tight bond, but Robert Kraft has made it clear that in negotiations he intends to separate his personal feelings from the business at hand.
