Jo Milne was born deaf due to Usher syndrome, a rare and incurable disorder. Milne recently received cochlear implants and was able to hear for the first time in her 40 years.
A YouTube video of Milne having the implants turned on for the first time and hearing her own voice, as well as others’, is emotional to say the least. Not surprisingly, the inspiring story has gone viral.
“The switch-on was the most emotional and overwhelming experience of my life and I’m still in shock now,” Milne said to The Journal.
Her friend, Tremayne Crossley, who took the video, also compiled a playlist of songs entitled “An Introduction To Music.” Crossley selected a song from each year of Milne’s life. Having never heard music before in her life, the first song she heard was John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
I’m not crying, I just have a giant stick in my eye. I’m guessing you do too.
