Self’s editor-in-chief, Lucy Danziger, is now apologizing for making fun of a brain cancer survivor in an issue of the magazine.

Monika Allen ran the L.A. Marathon wearing a Wonder Woman inspired costume with a tutu. Self used the photo to make fun of the tutu-wearing trend in fitness.

Danziger told USA Today that she is “personally mortified”.

Continuing, she said, “I had no idea that Monika had been through cancer. It was an error. It was a stupid mistake. We shouldn’t have run the item.”

Allen, who ran the marathon while taking chemotherapy, co-founded Glam Runner. The organization sells racing tutus to raise funds for a youth development program, Girls on the Run. She’s made 2,000 in the past three years alone.
