Let’s be honest: the only thing we really remember about the 2013 Billboard music awards is the very awkward moment when Justin Bieber was booed off stage. Now, almost a year later, history seems to be repeating itself.
Canada’s 2013 Juno Awards took place on Sunday night at the MTS Center, Winnipeg, and it seems even Canada has hopped onto the “Let’s Boo Bieber” bandwagon.
The singer’s home country did not receive his win in the Juno Fan Choice category very well, with the crowd booing as his name was announced. There were cheers intermingled with the boos (his Beliebers were a strong and vocal group), and the category is after all fan voted.
Serena Ryder, a fellow Canadian music artist, defended the Biebs as she accepted her award: “I really think that Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and he deserved every bit of that award because he’s been working his ass off his entire life and we need to support how awesome he is.”
Now we all have our opinions on the 20-year-old pop star; but whether or not you’re a full-fledged Belieber, when it comes to the music, the kid is doing something right. He has said, after all, that, “it really should be about the music.”
