It’s been a busy few weeks for everyone’s favorite satirical mouthpiece, Stephen Colbert.
The late night host was in the midst of controversy last week after an excerpt of one of his jokes was posted by @ColbertReport on Twitter, and taken completely out of context.
Viewers did not appreciate the “racist” tweet and they took to Twitter with the hashtag #CancelColbert after the show, which trended on Twitter for 36 hours.
To address the issue, Colbert responded, “Folks, I’m still here,” he said, pointing directly at the camera. “The dark forces trying to silence my message of core conservative principles mixed with youth friendly product placement have been thwarted.”
He dedicated his entire segment “Who’s Attacking Me Now?” to address the uproar he recently caused with the Asian community when he created a faux charity called “The Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.”
In wake of the controversy, the @ColbertReport account was deactivated, and now all Colbert-related tweets will come from @Stephenathome.
