It has already been confirmed that actor, writer and full-time genius Mark Gatiss will be penning two episodes in the upcoming eighth season of Doctor Who, but it has also now been announced that actor Tom Riley will feature in one of the two.

Tom Riley has already featured in many hugely successful shows, including crime drama Lewis, ITV’s Lost In Austen and was recently commended for his portrayal of Leonardo Da Vinci in Da Vinci’s Demons. He may not have starred in Doctor Who before, but he has previously encountered one incarnation of the Time Lord, starring opposite David Tennant in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend Of Fritton’s Gold.

Nothing is as yet known about Riley’s Who character, but, given that Mark Gatiss, the mastermind behind episodes such as The Unquiet Dead, Cold War and The Crimson Horror, is writing it, we can rest assured that Riley’s character is in for one hell of an adventure.

BBC reports that Riley’s episode begins filming soon, and we are, however slowly, edging closer and closer to the next season of Doctor Who, which will triumphantly return to the small screen some time this fall.
