An amazing moment unfolded on Sunday (April 5th) in Moore, Oklahoma. Around 2000 protestors stood against the Westboro Baptist Church as the religious group, identified by some as a ‘hate group,’ protested outside Central Junior High School.

The Church reportedly had a permit to picket for a half an hour beginning at 2pm, but they only stayed there for about eight minutes. Moore residents, many on motorcycles, began to cross the picket lines causing the WBC protestors to get into their cars and drive away.

Moore was hit by a fatal tornado just last year. As a result, Central Junior High School has been housing Plaza Towers elementary students since the disaster. On WBC’s websites they said the tornado was an example of “God’s wrath.”
Police were at the scene to separate the protestors and counter-protestors. No one was arrested or taken into custody after the incident. Police said  regardless of the high volume of tension, the crowd remained “relatively respectful.”
