Luci Baines Johnson and Lynda Bird Johnson Robb, President Lyndon B. Johnson’s daughters, spoke with Katie Couric on April 8th about their support for marriage equality. They met at their father’s presidential library, which was the meeting place for the Civil Rights Summit.

Couric asked the ladies if their father would have supported the marriage equality issue. The daughters didn’t give a yes or no answer, but did say that it would have been something that he “would have thought about.” The ladies spoke about how all social injustices were important issues to Lyndon B. Johnson.

Luci and Lynda spoke with passion and love concerning same sex relationships and the tragedy that it is that people are barred from marrying because of the gender of the person they love. Luci Johnson also stated that she wouldn’t want to deny someone the change to have the same love that she has in her own marriage.

My favorite quote from this interview (and maybe of all time now) was when Luci said “I think my father felt very strongly that when there was bigotry anywhere, prejudice anywhere, all of us lose out. Because it’s just one more expression of hate.”
