An Easter tradition took a shocking and morbid twist when a mother discovered a dead body while hunting for eggs with her son.
The woman found the corpse under the deck of her home during the hunt on April 16th in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Tara Hanouskova told authorities that she had smelled a strange odor around the house several days before the discovery, but could never locate the source. During the hunt on Wednesday, she decided to peer into the crawl space under the deck to investigate and was stunned to discover a pair of feet in tennis shoes.
Authorities extracted the fully-clothed body and determined that the remains belonged to a middle-aged male who was approximately 5’ 4”, 170lbs, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and extensive dental work.
An investigation revealed that the body had been under the deck for at least two weeks. An autopsy also determined that the man died of an unspecified medical condition and no foul play was suspected.
One bright spot in this grim story is that Hanouskova was able to take her 3-year-old special-needs son back into the house before the boy noticed anything. She also noted that police and responders reacted with care and sensitivity to her child’s situation, including arriving at the home without sirens or flashing lights that might have alarmed him.
A search of missing person lists in the area showed no matches and the identity of the deceased is still unknown.
