There is an old saying that misfortunes comes in threes. But for one Chicago resident, the opposite may be true; for him good fortune actually came in threes. Christopher Kaelin, who is just your normal average guy, just won the same lottery game three times within a period of three weeks, officials of the Illinois lottery announced on Wednesday (April 23).
According to Kaelin his first win came when he purchased a Crossword instant ticket at Gateway News stand on Clark Street in Chicago during his lunch break. He won $25,000 with this ticket. “My fiancé and I were so thrilled that I won $25,000, we went out for dinner to celebrate. When we stopped at a gas station afterward, I decided to buy another Crossword instant ticket and won $1,000,” He said in describing the circumstance on how he got his second win.
He would eventually return a week later to the same news stand where he purchased the first winning ticket and buy another one. And then won what he thought was another $25,000.
He was on his way to claim his prize, when he noticed something in the ticket “I was in the elevator looking at my ticket and noticed I had missed the tenth word,” Kaelin said. As it turns out, he didn’t win $25,000, the amount was actually larger at $250,000. And if you combine all three of his winnings it would amount to $276,000 in total.
He plans on using the money for practical purposes including paying off his student loans, paying for his wedding, buying a house, and saving up the rest for his daughter’s college fund.
