More than 50 years after its publication, author Harper Lee has agreed for To Kill A Mockingbird to be released as an ebook and digital audiobook.

According to The Guardian: “The announcement came almost a year after she sued her former literary agent Samuel Pinkus to regain rights to her novel. Lee claimed she had been duped into signing over the copyright (…) the case had been resolved to the author’s satisfaction, with “her copyright secured to her”.

In a public statement issued by her publisher, HarperCollins, Lee declared: “I’m still old-fashioned. I love dusty old books and libraries. I am amazed and humbled that Mockingbird has survived this long. This is Mockingbird for a new generation.”

The 1961 Pullitzer Price classic that tackles issues such as racism and segregation in Alabama during the 30’s, that sold over 30 million copies worldwide, and was translated into 40 languages will be digitally available on July 8, the date of the 54th anniversary of its original publication.

It should be noted that other literature classics such as JD Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye or One Hundred Years of Solitude from Nobel Prize Gabriel Garcia Marquez (who sadly passed away one week ago) are still unavailable in digital format.
