A Waseca, Minnesota resident recently thwarted a teenager’s plans to commit another deadly school shooting.

Chelsie Schellhas’ suspicions were raised when she saw the teenager at a storage facility.

“He shut the door. I thought it looked funny because normally it doesn’t take 10 minutes for someone to open a storage shed. So that’s why I called it in,” Schellhas explained.

The 17-year-old planned on killing his family, setting a fire somewhere in order to distract police and firefighters, then going to Waseca’s junior and senior high school to carry out the shooting, according to the local police department. He was even prepared for the SWAT team to kill him at some point.

He used Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and the most recent Sandy Hook tragedy as morbid “inspiration” for his plot. He originally wanted to commit the shooting on April 20, the anniversary of Columbine, but it was Easter Sunday, so school was closed. The new idea was to carry out his deadly plans last week.

Police launched an investigation back in March, when explosive devices were found at an elementary school playground in the area. The suspect was apparently using the playground as a testing area for his explosives. Pyrotechnic chemicals, steel ball bearings, and ammunition were among the items discovered in the storage facility and at the suspect’s home.

Thomas Lee, the superintendent of the Waseca school district, issued this statement on Schellhas’ miraculous deed:

“We can either believe that this is the result of a lucky break, or chose to believe, as I do, that God was looking out for all of us.”
