The war for late night seems to be the one consistent and ever-changing battle that persists in television. So it should come as no surprise that ABC wanted to lock up their guy, Jimmy Kimmel, for the foreseeable future.

On Tuesday afternoon, ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel would remain as their 11:30 guy for at least the next three years, extending his contract through 2017. Remarkably, Kimmel will be the longest tenured late-night host (attached to the same show) once Letterman retires later this year.

Ever since Jimmy Fallon has taken over The Tonight Show, Fallon has remained on top in the ratings, but Kimmel isn’t disastrously behind him and is certainly in the network late-night conversation when it comes to judging “The Jimmies.”

This signing also comes alongside ABC’s upfronts, where they try to sell to the advertisers that will be financing the network for the upcoming year. It doesn’t hurt to show the stability that ABC has in the late-night arena compared to any other network.

Where do you guys think Kimmel ranks among the late-night hosts? Was he deserving of the contract extension? Be sure to answer the poll questions below and let us know!
