We all have to start somewhere. Even Oprah Winfrey had to try out for her first role. A clip from over 30 years ago has recently resurfaced of a 20-something Oprah auditioning for a ‘chat show’.
The clip shows the young woman applying for the job as host of a Chicago morning show. The footage starts out, “Hi there. My name is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah spelled O-P-R-A-H.”
Oprah originally showcased the clip in 2005. In the segment on the show, she explained the role, “I stayed up all night long with an editor [and] sent my audition tape in… I was obsessed with getting this job.”
It seems she got the job. However, that little talk show was just the start. She went on to star in films, guest-star on television, host her talk show (The Oprah Winfrey Show), own her own channel (OWN) where she produces many programs, and become a philanthropist. Does that woman ever stop?
