Memorial Day Weekend, Beer, Hotdogs, and the Ballpark! But this story gets even better!
The beer guy was doing his job. Sixth inning of Philadelphia Phillies vs LA Dodgers, Phillies up 5-3. Carlos Ruiz of the Phillies was up to bat, facing Dan Haren, pitcher for the LA Dodgers.
The count is 2 balls and 2 strikes when Ruiz hits a foul ball down the first base side. Fans were eagerly awaiting the foul ball to hit their glove, but the beer guy comes through!
Earl Chaney, a beer vendor at Citizens Bank Park since 2004, was hit by a ball before but never caught one! Chaney gave the ball to a little girl and carried on with his job, but received a standing ovation for his unintentional work.
The Phillies went on to win the game!
