It started out as a joke in the Scott Mills Show on BBC Radio 1. Host Scott Mills and his sidekick, Christ Stark, started out discussing the new official World Cup song “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by Pitbull when they came up with the idea. Noting the backlash for the song and weighing in their own criticism, Mills had the idea to create his own alternative world cup anthem and announced it to his listeners. Things got serious when Mills called his celebrity connections and got pop-rock band Five Second Of Summer (5SOS) to work with him.

After several teasers, Mills finally unveiled the new song on his radio show. Titled “Hearts Upon Our Sleeves,” the song is pretty catchy, and offers inspiring lyrics. The reaction has so far been positive, with   #HeartsUponOurSleeves trending worldwide on Twitter in the US and UK. Fans tweeted out their pleasant surprise at the song, while still others noted how they though that it would just be one of those BBC Radio 1 ‘jokes’.

The accompanying music video is simple but star-studded.  Music stars Tinie Tempah , One Direction , You Me @ 6 , former footballer  and sports broadcaster Gary Lineker, and various hosts of BBC Sports all made cameos. Guy Mowbray, the youngest television commentator on World Cup Final history, provided some football commentary to the song. The video has accumulated 80,000 views and 20,000 likes, only 7 hours after its release on YouTube. Check it out for yourself and have a watch below!
