Here’s some amazing news– 77% of the youngest generation support same-sex marriages! This data comes from a survey held by ABC in conjunction with The Washington Post.
Also reported alongside these great numbers is another awesome revelation. Over 50% of all Americans approve of same-sex marriage, period, at 56%. Compare these numbers to just three years prior in 2011, when the majority of U.S. citizens first began to approve of same-sex marriage, and we’re up by 3%!
It’s a miracle, though, contrasting these numbers to 1996’s and seeing just how far we’ve come in less than 20 years. We’ve gone up by a whopping 26% since then, when 68% of Americans strongly opposed civil rights for LGBT individuals. Whenever you think that the fight isn’t being fought hard enough or things aren’t going fast enough, just remember where we supporters came from less than a decade ago and be proud!
The fact that so many of our youth believe in equal rights for all without discrimination is an amazing sign of where we’ll be at socially in the coming years. Despite whatever negativity is being spouted by certified talking heads situated on podiums today, it’s the people who will pave the path for a better future.
