Suraj Sharma is set to join the fourth season of Homeland.
The actor who shot to fame with his lead role in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi is set to play the recurring role of Aayan Ibrahim; a Pakistani medical student who crosses paths with lead character Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes. He will be joining new cast members, Corey Stoll who will be playing the Chief of the CIA in Pakistan, and Laila Robins as the US Ambassador to Pakistan.
Sharma, who never acted before his role in Life of Pi, got his big break by accident. His younger brother Sriharsh, who at that time was already an actor in India, asked him to accompany him to the Life of Pi auditions. When they got there, it was suggested that he also try out for the role. He was able to beat out 3,000 other hopefuls to secure the part.
After the film’s success, he continued his studies at St. Stephen’s College at Delhi University. He would later transfer to NYU, where he is studying now.
Production for Homeland will begin later this month in South Africa. It will serve as a stand-in for Islamabad and Kabul, where the storyline for Season 4 will be set. New episodes are set to air this fall.
