Hunger Games fans, this one’s for you! We have finally been gifted with a new trailer for part 1 of Mockingjay.
In the trailer, President Snow is sitting calmly in a stark-white room with Peeta by his side. What we’re seeing is a snippet from “Capitol TV,” delivered in such a way that it feels as though we are actually citizens of Panem. The trailer offers no marketing to speak of; just a short message from our friendly, neighborhood sociopath…er president.
In the video, Snow addresses his people, claiming that they’ve lived in peace since the “dark days,” and that theirs is an elegant system. Honestly, it feels like an eighties PSA; except much more sinister, because President Snow is the creepiest bearded dude to grace our screens since the fellas of Duck Dynasty and their homophobia became relevant (somehow).
However, Snow’s insistence that he’s only got the country’s best interests at heart is not the creepiest part of the video. The fact that Peeta is stoically standing by his side like the Reek version of Theon Greyjoy is the most unsettling aspect of the ad. When he looks directly into the camera with dead eyes and a deadpan expression, your will to live diminishes noticeably.
