21-Year-Old “The Patriot” Actress, Skye McCole Bartusiak, Dies Suddenly In Her Sleep

Young actress Skye McCole Bartusiak has died at the age of 21. The starlet was likely best known for her role as Mel Gibson’s heartbreakingly adorable daughter in the period film, The Patriot. 

Her mother, Helen McCole Bartusiak, told CNN that “We lost our girl. She was a kind and really beautiful girl.”

At this point, her cause of death is still unknown; but her mother did say that she had been experiencing epileptic seizures in recent days, according to Variety. Bartusiak was found sitting up in bed by her boyfriend; and all signs point to her passing away in her sleep.

Bartusiak had several small roles following her turn in The Patriot, including Don’t Say a Word, Cider House Rules, CSI, Lost and 24. Her mother also stated that she was even preparing to direct and produce her first feature film.
