J.K. Rowling has touched our hearts in myriad ways with Harry Potter’s story, but she recently reached out to a teenage girl with an unforgettable gift.
Cassidy Stay, only 15, was the sole survivor of a horrific tragedy last month when her uncle murdered her parents and four siblings, after he failed to discover his ex-wife’s location. A bullet hit Stay’s finger and then grazed her skull, and she made the decision to play dead, which saved her life.
At her family’s memorial service, she used a quote from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, made by Dumbledore: “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“I know that my mom, dad, Bryan, Emily, Becca and Zach are in a much better place and that I’ll be able to see them again one day,” the brave teenager added.
Her story spread rapidly across the internet, with some kindhearted soul even creating a Facebook page devoted to setting up a meeting between Rowling and Stay. Yesterday night, that same page confirmed this news:
Our love and prayers go out to her family, and we’re so glad she received such a thoughtful message and gift from Rowling.
