Last month, Britney Spears wound up in the blogosphere hot seat as a scratch vocal from her recording session for “Alien” leaked. It was an unedited and real glimpse into a recording session with the pop music artist, and it was cringeworthy. While her camp managed to have the video pulled from YouTube, sadly the damage had already been done. The vocal track has been copied and uploaded many times over and can easily be found through an Internet search.
Now a “real” vocal of “Work Bitch” has found its way onto YouTube. I put real in quotes because although it is a stripped down version of the song, it still contains some of the standard auto-tune vocal manipulation that gets used in Spears’s music.
This isn’t the first time an audio of Britney’s vocals has been uploaded to YouTube. It’s been done with several of her songs in the past, and even though it’s a good attempt at trying to highlight her vocal prowess, it’s not audio taken from the original recording sessions. Most of the times, it’s usually just the work of a hardcore fan who has the kind of software that can separate a track onto different channels and isolate her main vocals.
So the speculation continues — at least online anyway. As for Britney’s true vocal ability, I think we all know the answer as to where it lies…even if we don’t want to say it out loud. In my opinion, she’s not the best, but she’s by no means the worst. I still enjoy her music regardless.
