This week we lost one of Hollywood’s greatest entertainers; Robin Williams.
Tributes have been plenty, many memories revisited and tissues passed around as we remembered the great man who made us laugh, touched our hearts and brought to us some of the most iconic characters in cinematic history.
Though he was hidden behind the microphone for his portrayal of The Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, you couldn’t hide his passion, talent or the life he brought to the character.
Twenty-two years later, after his passing, Broadway payed homage to Williams with the ritual dimming of the lights. The Great White Way went dark for one minute on Wednesday to honor him, but that wasn’t the only tribute Broadway had up their sleeves.
The cast of Aladdin put together a special, one-night-only rendition of the hit song “Friend Like Me,” and even got the audience involved. What a good night to see the show, as the tribute was truly one of the best and one I think Robin would have thoroughly enjoyed.
