Courtesy of tudocelular.comToday (August 26), Instagram unveiled their first standalone app called Hyperlapse, which allows a user to create stabilized moving time-lapse videos.
Hyperlapse uses algorithm processing to map the motion in the clip and produces a smooth, floating-through-space type effect that looks like it was shot by Scorsese. The user will be able to choose the speed at which your video plays back.
The idea for the app is to mimic not only the Hyperlapse videos created using DSLRs and thousands of still frames, but also the cinematic motion tracking shots.
Image stabilization has been an ongoing project for software makers, but the technologies (the ones you find in Final Cut) were just unworkable for smartphones. With software like Hyperlapse, the ability to use cinematic motion is in the palm of everyday smartphone users.
As of now, the app is only available for the iPhone, but Instagram is hoping to develop an Android version soon.
