Advocates for marriage equality in Ireland have created a hilarious way to portray people’s misguided fear towards gay marriage.
In this new Irish PSA ad, a fictional paranoid straight couple is shown in Ireland’s not so distant future of 2017. In this future, marriage equality has been passed. In fear of the upcoming ‘Armagayddon’, the couple barricades themselves inside their house. The scenes are reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic trope where people go into seclusion to protect themselves from certain death and the dangers of the outside world.
But while it is feasible and practical in the fiction for this genre, the ad turns it on its head by showing that there is no danger after all. Life just goes on as normal, even if marriage equality passes and it’s all just in some people’s heads.
