Michael Sam, NFL’s first openly gay player, will continue his football career with the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL.com is reporting that the Cowboys’ head coach, Jason Garrett, announced that Sam has been added to the team’s practice squad.
Garrett held a press conference where he told reporters, “We feel like he has a chance to come in at a position that we’ve tried to address really throughout the offseason, throughout training camp and compete for a spot.”
NFL Network insider, Ian Rapoport confirmed the news with a series of tweets. Sam believes that his joining the Cowboys is a much better opportunity to see meaningful NFL snaps. The Cowboys, whose defensive line is not as impressive as the St. Louis Rams, are hoping to improve with Sam.
Sam, who was cut from the Rams on Saturday (Aug. 30), had 2.5 sacks this preseason and led the Rams with six tackles in Thursday night’s preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins.
It has now been announced that Sam has officially been signed by Cowboys. Congratulations to this brave man AND the Cowboys. We know they have a bright future together!
