Google has revealed their new line of very affordable smartphones, currently targeted at Android users in India. The aim is to allow less affluent people around the world to access smartphone technology.

The new phones will feature 4.5 inch screens, 1.3GHz quad-core processors and 1GB of RAM. For you Indian Instagrammers, the phone will also hold a 5 megapixel back camera, and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for all of your selfie-based needs. Whilst these specs aren’t particularly amazing by today’s extreme standards, for a retail price of 6399 rupees ($105), this is exceptionally good value.

They will ship with extra language choices, extending the Android One brand as much as possible, as well as new localised Google Play Newsstand publications. Google also announced that the ultra-cheap gadgets will come with a specially developed version of the stock YouTube app, which allows a ‘save for later’ method of watching video. This means that Indian users will be able to download videos to their phone to watch when internet isn’t available, or re-watch whenever they like, without experiencing extortionate data charges.

Users on carrier Airtel can expect an update to Android L when it releases, including even more awesome features for you to push your phone to the limit. The phones will run a pretty much stock version of Android, not unlike other Google devices such as the Nexus 5, which means the phone will have more space for your own data, as well as less clutter on your home screen.

If you’re outside of India, don’t worry, as Google have plans to bring the Android One ultra-cheap devices to Pakistan, the Phillipines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, all before the end of 2014.
