Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning film, which brought the Chinese ‘wuxia’ film genre to the mainstream in the west, is getting a sequel and it is gonna premiere on Netflix.

That’s right, this film is going to be available for home viewing at the same time that it will be hitting theaters.

Titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, this movie is set to premier on August 28th, 2015. As for theatrical distribution, it will only be initially available in IMAX theaters.

“Fans will have unprecedented choice in how they enjoy an amazing and memorable film that combines intense action and incredible beauty,” said Ted Sarandos of Netflix.

Sadly though, Ang Lee won’t be returning to the director’s chair. Yuen Wo Ping, who worked with Lee on the first film as fight choreographer, will take over. Michelle Yeoh, who played Yu Shu Lien, will reprise her role. She will be joined by Donnie Yen and Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr.

Filming is currently under way in New Zealand. Hopefully the sequel will live up to the splendor and wonder brought by the original.
