It’s what fans have been waiting the entire year for, and we’ve finally received it – the upcoming crime comedy Inherent Vice has released a trailer, and it is unbelievably awesome.
Inherent Vice is based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, widely considered one of the greatest writers of all time. It is the very first Pynchon novel to be given the film treatment. It centers on Doc Sportello, a pothead private detective in California in 1970, and how he becomes entangled in a surreal conspiracy including a real estate mogul, insane asylums, lascivious dentists, and a mysterious entity known as Golden Fang.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Doc, with Josh Brolin, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson and Martin Short also starring. It is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the genius filmmaker behind Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and There Will Be Blood.
Inherent Vice will be premiering at the New York Film Festival THIS Saturday night (Oct. 4), and then will have a limited release on the 12th of December before going wide on January 9th next year.
