On Saturday (Oct. 4), Katy Perry made an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay and she responded to the NFL’s request  for potential SuperBowl halftime performers to “pay to play”.

“I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl,” Perry said when asked how she felt about the request.

The Wall Street Journal reported that this past August the NFL had asked Perry, as well as Coldplay and Rihanna, if they’d be willing to offer a percentage of their future tour earnings or “some other type of financial contribution” to perform at the big game in February.

The NFL is really starting to become the “No Fun League”.

The theory behind this is that because it’s the SuperBowl, the exposure is so great that an artist should pay for it. However, do artists like Katy Perry and Rihanna need the exposure?

Perry joined ESPN co-hosts Lee Corso and Chris Fowler for some football commentary and turned the guest appearance into something very entertaining. Wearing a pink, fuzzy jersey Perry just couldn’t stop playing with a corndog, and if she wasn’t holding them up then she was flinging them at the camera.

The co-hosts then asked the singer for her opinion on the Oklahoma vs. TCU game,  which led her to ask if that was the team with the “cocks in it?” referring to the University of South Carolina’s mascot, The Gamecocks.

What do you think of the NFL asking for handouts from potential halftime performers?
