Super Troopers is a comedy released back in 2001, and it has gone and become a cult-favorite ever since. During a recent interview with one of the stars, it was revealed that the film would come right back with a sequel and bring the laughs with it.
It might have taken 13 years for a sequel to go into development, but the time has finally come. Steve Lemme, one of the Super Troopers and part of the Broken Lizard comedy group, stated the second movie was finally coming and he explained why it took them so long to put it together. In his very own words:
“You know, it was a combination of having to settle some of the legal disputes about making a sequel, while also negotiating terms for it. The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together. Fox is going to distribute the film, but we needed to raise the money for it. We’re close. There may be a Kickstarter launched to raise the last little bit.”
Lemme went on to discuss the film, without giving out too much though. He said the new Super Troopers is “unique” and “interesting”, while also revealing it takes us a few years later from where we were left with the previous one. According to him, the actors will even grow their mustaches back for the roles! Furthermore, the actor and producer said they had a hard time topping the opening scene of the first movie, but he thinks they did it.
The first Super Troopers starred Lemme along with the rest of the Broken Lizard gang, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske and Paul Soter. The sequel will go into pre-production in November, with filming scheduled to begin in early 2015.
