After months of speculation, the rumors have finally been confirmed. Channing Tatum will indeed star as X-Men character Gambit in a new solo film. It has also been confirmed that Tatum will also co-produce the film.
Fox’s choice of Tatum may be upsetting news for some. Many fans across the internet were not pleased with the possibility of the Magic Mike actor in the role ever since rumors began to spread several months ago attaching his name to the part. Some expressed a desire to see Taylor Kitsch return as the card-throwing master of energy manipulation. Kitsch played the part during Gambit’s brief appearance in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Disgruntled fans may take some solace in knowing that at least the movie’s plot will originate from some universally trusted hands. The treatment for the screenplay was written by Marvel comics writer Chris Claremont, who actually co-created the Gambit character in 1990. Josh Zetumer is set to write the screenplay itself.
